Are there good tools for professional designers to use that support source control integration with Team Foundation Server? I'm aware of the Expression tools, but curious to see if there is something else, as proper designer tools really aren't my area of expertise.

I do not think so.

The best way I've found to enable designers to include and update files on TFS using proper checkin and checkout policy is to install the TFS Power Tools on their machines and let them checkout and checkin files using the shell extension feature (that, being integrated in the Windows Explorer, allow them also to checkout or lock files while opening them from the various designer tools they're using.

I've got the designer evaluating the Expression tools for now, will look at this approach if he doesn't like them. Thanks!

Thought I'd include this, as one of my coworkers implemented it as a solution for our designer: The designer uses Dreamweaver. They used Tortise SVN to do an SVN bridge with TFS...

Don't think I'd have thunk of that one...
