I am a software engineer who would love to "disconnect" from the "company store" so-to-speak.

Just wondering.

Just like any other Web 2.0 site--get a large enough user base and sell it to someone for millions. How will the people you sell it to make money? Who knows!
Jeff Atwood has already stated that he believes it is more important that the site survive as a concept than it is for it to make money.
