Even more advanced .htaccess question

Got a great answer earlier, but unfortunately, I didn't explain the WHOLE situation:

I need to rewrite:

blog.domainname.com/archives/YYYY/MM/postname/

and

www.blog.domainname.com/archives/YYYY/MM/postname/

to

www.domainname.com/blog/postname/

My apologies, first day using Stack overflow, I didn't make a profile for either question, just my email address.

To explain further:

I've moved my old blog - all the posts are indexed as:

www.blog.domainname.com/archives/YYYY/MM/postname/

My new blog removes the subdomain and uses a category:

www.domainname.com/blog/postname/

I'd like to redirect the old address to the new address using .htaccess
