I'm part of a startup that builds a product that might be acquired by Google. We can choose to build the product using many different types of technology. Which technologies are most Google friendly?

I would love to have a list of use / don't use pairs. Like this:

  • Use html5 Don't use silverlight
  • Use Linux Don't use Windows

etc.

I don't think it particularly matters in a lot of cases. They tend to acquire technology that they can find useful, and then adapt it to their workflow after the fact.

Off the top of my head lately, I'd think:

  • Use WebM / Dont Use H264
  • Use Android / Don't Use iPhone

However, iPhone companies have been acquired and the software has just been moved to Android instead.

Why not H.264? Youtube is H.264. As is Chrome....

It doesn't really matter, it just seems to fall into the Android category in that a lot of the reason for H.264 is to support the iPhone (which often doesn't play on Android even). WebM supports Open Source, and Youtube will surely switch to WebM once the codec is widespread.

No stable/release version of Chrome (or Firefox, or any other browser that I can find) supports WebM yet -- it's still just an open-source project. You might get brownie points for helping develop it, but avoiding H.264 on the web at this point probably isn't going to impress Google.

Just as "What should I put on my web page to get a better PR" can't be answered, neither can this question.

The only one that could, possibly, maybe answer your question would be someone from Google.

I would focus more on creating the best business model possible and making it a success before I worried about getting acquired by Google.
