I've learned that I work better with less stuff around me, so I got rid of a lot of toys, pictures, printouts, spare parts, little-used computers, etc.

If you're going to set up an office but keep it minimalist, what items do you still bring along? Assume you have the budget you want.

For example, you could just work on a laptop, letting one item work as PC, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers, with only a couple cables.

You probably want a good chair and a desk.

I'd want a drawer full of basic stuff, like office supplies, aspirin and snacks.

Of course, I'd want a mini-fridge also.

I wouldn't want to go with a laptop ... dual monitors are a must, as is a decent keyboard.

But I'd like to get rid of the wires: wireless keyboard, mouse, headphones. Ideally mount the monitors so the cables can be hidden in the wall.

That would still leave the charging cable for my phone, so a cradle or even one of those charging pads would be nice.

I run dual monitors from my laptop by using it's docking station.

And I charge my phone through the USB cable from my laptop.

I tend not to have a lot of stuff in the way of decorations, toys, etc. I do have a whiteboard, and a photographs of my wife and each kid in visually unobtrusive frames.

I'd need more than just a laptop. I can't use touchpad effectively; if I have a desk, I'm using a mouse. I can get by with a laptop keyboard, but I STRONGLY prefer a real, full-size, full-throw keyboard; however, it isn't as essential as a real mouse. Likewise a second monitor.

I'd definitely need a good chair, and a desk with enough room for the computer, mouse, a cup of coffee, and a notebook or two without feeling cramped.

I'd need a good-sized whiteboard.

I'd need a bookshelf. 18" of shelf space would probably do.

I'd need a small drawer with one of those pen/pencil/paperclip trays in it.

A second chair could be nice on occasion. I can always steal one from a conference room, though; no need for it to be a permanent occupant.

@[Jay Bazuzi]: skype only works if you're online, but my cell phone works everywhere. pen and paper still work when there's no power and/or you don't have time to boot up. I can work with just the laptop though
