That depends on what you're comparing with. It is one of the largest mainstream technologies. They don't pay that well, but there is a lot of job security possible (working at banks/ insurance companies).
You need newer technologies/methodologies to get a better salary. If you can show you know a lot about MVC, CQRS, DDD, BDD, Scrum you can get paid really well.
Job security comes from using more effective and efficient technology, and applying it in an area where ROI is easily shown.

You watch the news right? I ask because you put banks/insurance companies in the same sentence with job security...bad example for 2010 I do believe :)

There is sufficient job security there. The job losses are all in other areas, unless you're in a new long-term project with questionable ROI that gets canceled. (ASP.NET MVC)

Do you by any chance mean ASP.NET MVC or just MVC in general?

Stupid no-longer editable rule. I mean ASP.NET MVC as a better technology, not one that might get your project canceled
