Hello Everyone!

I have a question that encompasses both SharePoint 2007 and Access 2007.

Background:

Over the past 6 months our SharePoint 2003 sites have been migrated to SharePoint 2007 creating issues with some of the lists because the column names had more than 64 characters (we used the column names to hold the actual question) which are not allowed in 2007. We use our lists in a similar way to questionnaires where a user would click create and be presented with a form to fill out.

I currently have a List with primary key (non continuous, has had records deleted) that was migrated from SP 2003, I am unable to alter this list because it is in use till the replacement list + DB backend has been completed. I have saved the old list as a template (unable to save content too) and used it to create two new lists. One list is 100% identical to the original with the long column names and the second one is identical structure wise but has the shorter column names.

I have tried multiple ways including exporting the data into an excel file (I made one with the old column names and one with the new shortened column names) and attempting to import the data using MS Access 2007 (or 2003 if it was the old long column names) but it always results in errors and field type mismatches even though the mismatched records are identically formatted to the rows it did accept.

Question:

What is the best way to insert the old data into either one of the new lists? Or what is the best way to duplicate the original list with the data intact so I can make the necessary changes.

If you would like any additional information I will do my best to provide it.

Thanks!
