Many a times companies prefers candidates who has prior experiences in a particular domain. e.g. Banking, Telecommunication etc.

And it is not possible for a person in the middle of his career to gain knowledge of each and every domain even though he has the required technical skills to do the job.

What in your opinion should be done in this case.

Shouldn't there be books/articles on various terminologies of specific domains, which i think currently is not there?

You are right: it is not possible to become meaningfully acquainted with every domain. A reasonable solution is to specialise. Pick a domain that:

  • you like (so you will have fun)
  • seems to be in demand now (so you can learn now)
  • seems to be promising for a long time into the future (so you will stay employed)

and become a specialist. Find a project in that domain and start learning by doing. Of course, reading books and web sites is necessary, but not enough. Actually interacting with professionals in your domain of choice is what will give you the edge, especially if that domain is not in the engineering or technical area.

Good luck!
