Where do I get stats about Internet usage?

  • Number of internet users
  • Domains most visited
  • Emails sent each day
  • etc...

There are no statistics that record the entire internet - it's way too decentralized. Nevertheless, some companies have numerous data collectors. A good starting point may be Alexa.

I discovered the Internet Health Report. It's not statistical in terms of hits, visits, etc., but it does report throughput between major providers. This came in very handy when we had web traffic issues from some clients, and it turns out our ISP was at war with another provider over VOIP and they both blocked all traffic to/from each other for almost a day.

It took the web team and the network guys the better part of a day to figure this out (I discovered this at the end of that day). So it won't give you trend data, but it could be useful in troubleshooting web site availability.
