c# using monthcalendar or datetimepicker in terminal server

I have a form with a datetimepicker on it which runs fine locally

when I run my program from a terminal server the calendar in the datetimepicker seems to be a lot larger than when run locally

this behaviour is the same if i use a month calendar control instead

it seems that there is an issue with terminal server with regards to displaying things properly

does anybody have an idea how I can get the controls to look the same in both environments

any help would be greatly appreciated
