Starting with content in Microsoft Word, what are some good tools available that can create a SCORM compliant e-Learning course out of it. Also, do these tools work just with styling cues present in the MS-Word document, or can they do some kind of intelligent inferencing, as to what is a multiple-choice question etc, from the text alone?

I have played with several tools that produce SCORM compliant packages. My top choice after testing is Articulate. It is very easy to author courses using it. It installs as a powerpoint plugin. You could convert your word doc to powerpoint and use it from there.

Have you looked at the Learning Essentials toolkit from Microsoft? That is the only one I know of that explicitly converts MS Word directly.
