I observed that some of my xml files (ssis dtsx packages basically) are getting corrupted randomly. What could be the possible reasons? I couldn't find any clue from system events or logs. Can this be some sort of virus activity? Have you ever faced a similar situation?

A:

Technically, a virus being a computer program, it can do almost anything, including corrupting XML files, though I have not ever heard of one doing so. Most viruses nowadays turn the PC into zombies for adware intends: your XML files are probably not of much interested to them.

Review your security settings, and do some hardware checks, memory, hard drive, etc in order to make sure that your corruption is not hardware related. I've seen a lot of files corruption coming from bad memory sticks.

If it is the case, and for more help on these diagnostics, it is probably better suited to post on serverfault...

Nope it is not H/W related because it is happening in another machine as well. I have started doubting how SQL agent is handling the file now...
