Looking for a free and best tool to compare and sync two SQL Server databases. I've searched in stackoverflow for the compare tools but most of them are buy only. Basically this tool will be used for non-commercial use and for developer only.

Can anybody suggest tool used by them and it is free?

I know two good tools are from IsDera and Redgate... but they are paid :(. For Syncing Sync Framework from MS is aavailable but for compare you need to google if MS has such features

DBComparer - unfortunatelly it doesn't have sync feature, but it is completely free and used it successfully in my project.

I've come across OpenDBDiff as well and it is free but doesn't have sync feature. Also it doesn't have selection option for the objects I want to compare and sync. I'm looking for a tool which will give me an option to select objects I want to compare and sync. In short it should be similar to Redgate but not necessary to have all the features Redgate has.

In many cases, you get what you pay for. RedGate isn't free, but it's sure worth what it costs, because the value of the the time saved when using it.

I agree, but in my case I cannot afford that, so at the moment I'm doing it manually. Also I dont require all the features which Redgate offers, hence it is not worth for me as a developer. That's why I'm here to know whether anybody knows a tool with simple feature of compare and sync. If I dont find any I would do the same manually.

True, if you can't afford it, you can't. I was lucky in that my employer bought it for me.

@Jay So which features you actually don't need? In the question bellow you are getting quite picky about missing features so I thought I'd ask :-)

Have you tried this http://sourceforge.net/projects/dabcos/

You can download its Open Source but it currently support only SQL Server 7 and 2000, you extend it though to support 2005 and 2008 just update the XML Files that come with it which is the SqlServer.VersionsInfo.xml and add an interface file for that version you want to run.

Rather the copy/paste every other suggestion from pages of previous almost duplicate questions...

Search for SQL+Server+database+compare+tool+free

gbn
That search has way too many results :-) How about SO charges 10x the rep cost to every next person asking the same - it's only fair :-)))
ZXX
@ZXX : that means it's been asked "way too may" times before... how about we penalise 10x rep for folk who don't bother searching...
gbn
@gn - only for extreme cases like this. Although that also means that SO needs Way Too Frequent (neat abbr. :-) question digests with pointers to lists like [Free SQL Serv Tools] and [SQL Server Compare Tools].

There is a great stored procedure written by Viktor Gorodnichenko called sp_CompareDB. It's tested, I've used it, it's awesome.

And for the next person who finds this by searching:

and

SQL Server Compare Tools <-- you can add info to this one

For the synchronization feature, assuming you are using the full version of SQL Server and not SQL Server Express, you could look into SQL Server's built-in Replication functionality.
