As, you probably know, YouTube allows you to watch a lot of old tv shows: http://www.youtube.com/shows
Here's something I can't figure out. Most shows, when you watch them, you are primarily downloading and uploading is rather insignificant.
However, for some reason, when you watch StarTrek, it uploads significantly while you are watching. My question is, why does watching StarTrek require so much uploading (14KiB/s), while other shows seem to have more reasonable (339 bytes/second) uploading while you are watching them.
Compare Bewitched: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqiUyJ-SUZA&list=SL
To Star Trek: http://www.youtube.com/show/startrek
Here's why this matters to me. My Uncle loves to watch StarTrek, but he has a ADSL connection. As you know, with ADSL, uploading dramatically effects how fast you can download. So he can watch other shows fine, but when he watches StarTrek, it will play for about 15 seconds, and then stop (recurringly) . He likes StarTrek so much that he puts up with this, but it has been a puzzle to me, as to why so much uploading is necessary to watch StarTrek versus other YouTube shows.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me?
