Afternoon all. I'm running a VMWare environment using VSphere etc. I've got a datacentre (vDataCentre1) with a number of clusters (vClusterA, vClusterB, vClusterC). Within each cluster there are a number of physical machines (vClusterA: pMachine1, pMachine2).

I've been asked to set up another virtualised environment using the same server rack for a different project. I can just add new virtual machines to the current datacentre, but I don't want to do that as I want to keep the two separate.

So I created a new datacentre (vDataCentre2) which is the top level of the tree. This then has a new cluster vClusterC in it. I then want to reuse one of the physical machines in this new vClusterC. However when I try to add an existing machine from vDataCentre1 I get told I cannot use the same machine twice (another machine using this name exists, or something like that).

I could delete vDataCentre1 and start again for this new project, but I don't want to get rid of the existing one.

It seems to me that a machine should be able to exist in more than one datacentre, as you may want to use it for more than one client without having to muck around deleting everything!

Any thoughts?? Thanks :) Joe
