Final year project ideas(Data mining - Security)

Hey all,

I'm in my CS final year and I have like 8 months and a group of 4 to accomplish the project. About the idea, I searched a lot, but nothing was really interesting.

I don't want to work on (because I've already did):

• Simulations for physical issues.
• 3D games.
• Learning Systems.

I was searching in the following topics:

• Data mining oriented projects (Web personalization, Profiling).

• Web security.(I don't have much information about this aspect).

If you can give me some advices about project ideas, or some interesting topics to add them to my search list.

You might find it interesting to study network packets' content, genuineness and other relevant details to identify/classify/analyze bad packets and isolate them. But this is a network security based project. I'm not really sure how you would do that but a quick web search should give you some research materials to help you get started.

About web-security, you can maybe look at identifying malware-prone websites or websites that don't have a certificate or clustering websites based on the level of security measures employed by each one of them. This idea is pretty vague. I'm not quite a Web-security expert.
