way to clear static files cached in browser from server

Our website has many javascript and image files in each page. When we update our website by modifying the existing javascript, the changes are not taking place since its not cleared from browser cache.

Is there any way in WebServer or Appserver setting which will clear visitor's browser cache. We are using IBM Websphere Application Server 6.1 version.
