<XMP> Tag

Does anyone remember the XMP tag?

What was it used for and why was it depreciated?

Well a quick google search on W3C shows it was for displaying formatted text in HTML3.2 and was deprecated and pre preferred instead.

Edit: I've just found out that FF3 still supports the tag and so does Google Prettify.
