I bought an Aeron and a Mirra for my home office. (My wife told me I could only spend that kind of money on an office chair if I bought one for her too.)

My wife and I each prefer the Aeron, so we have to fight over it sometimes, but I'd be happy with two Mirras. Note that both of my chairs are fully loaded.

Here are the differentiators:

Aeron:

  • better lumbar support
  • mesh back
  • different sizes available

Mirra:

  • adjustable arm widths
  • adjustable seat depth

The only real complaint I have about either is that I think the Mirra's plastic back looks awful. But it is not uncomfortable to sit on.

I have no experience with the Mirra or Celle but I own a Aeron. The Aeron is the single most comfortable chair I have ever owned or sat in. The level of adjustments available is great, you can get it to be pretty much exactly like you want it. The mesh seating and backing is extremely comfortable. It keeps you from getting hot but supports more than enough for comfort. Ive spent many 16 hours days in that chair and it doesnt hurt me or make me sore.

Now I am also very confident that the Mirra and Celle are very comfortable chairs as well, but I prefer full mesh seating and backing for temperature comfort.

I dont think you could go wrong with any Herman Miller chair. They are that good.

Aeron comes in Sizes (a,b,c) to accommodate seat depth and back height.

From what I have read the Mirra has adjustments and comes in 1 size.

I found that the Mirra had more give, the front of the seat could be retracted downwards and the lumbar support was a bit better. It comes in more colours and is cheaper too.

I all comes down to personal impressions. If you can I would recommend to try them in person. I went to a Herman Miller exhibit to test them - as they only sell via their distributors (at least in London) there was no 'salesman' pressure.

Mirra Reviews

It seems that the Mirra is getting as good if not better ratings than the Aeron. So it looks like you cant go wrong with it and you can save some money on it. I might have to get another one for home :)

The Celle has gotten nearly universally negative reviews, so I'd stay away from that model.

Beyond that, the Mirra vs Aeron comes down to personal preference. (I prefer the Mirra, by far). Do you have a Design Within Reach in your area? They have both chairs available to try.

There is one about 30 minutes away, thanks for the suggestion! Being that there doesn't seem to be many physical stores that carry them I have been a little weary blindly ordering online.

How long do you need to try one before you know what it's like: does sitting in it for 20 seconds or a minute give you an accurate idea how it feels, or would you need to sit in it for some longer time in order to know what it would really be like if you bought it?
