I know the answer to these questions may not be the same and a lot of it "depends," but basically I just want to start a site and I'm not planning for it to get a ton of traffic and I don't need a lot of space. I want a hosting service that is reliable and somewhere where I can play around a bit. Any ideas on where is the best place to get it hosted?
Well, for .NET, I have discountasp.net, and they aren't bad. I pay $70/3 months, with a SQL server. It's decent, shared, and pretty fast. Good for a website not getting much traffic, like a small business website or online portfolio (which is what I use it for).
Dreamhost (http://dreamhost.com) is good on space and bandwidth. I have been using it for years with about 10 minutes total unscheduled downtime.
A Small Orange (http://asmallorange.com) is also a pretty good choice - I don't have much experience with them, but I've heard that they are reliable and fast.
Good luck!
There's lots of good reviews and forum posts at WebHostingTalk.
Just be careful. Just as in software development there's the pick 2 of 3 rule, with web hosting you can't get good with cheap. You have to pick one or the other (with the exclusion that you can get bad hosting that's expensive).
I spent somewhere around $70 or $80 (US dollars) for a domain + 1 year hosting at godaddy.
It was way cheaper than I was expecting, but maybe you get what you pay for. MySQL and PHP work with no problem, and they can have your domain registered with a wordpress installation up and running in under 24 hours. Their ftp is pretty slow by my standards, but for a starter site, you probably won't beat the price/feature ratio.
The guys over at diggnation advertise some coupon codes (try digg1 .. digg6, or watch the podcast for the latest) which can get you a few dollars off.
My site has only been running with godaddy for a few months, so I can't make any solid comment about uptime. Other people here likely have some experience with them too..
I have been very happy with Site5. I could go into detail about how great it is, but their site explains it well enough. The one time I have needed support (to have a feature installed or updated) I got a resolution that same Saturday afternoon.
I have had the best luck with Blue host. my site is up all the time and it is fast. and there support is top notch. If you would like to check bluehost and other great affordable web hosting providers go to http://www.affordableweb-hosting.com/
I agree that you can't get both 'Good' and 'Cheap' from the same host.
Of the two, if you're leaning further towards 'Cheap' than 'Good', Hostgator is worth a look. They are definitely very cheap, and may just be good enough.
I recommended to this http://www.thewebpole.com/ .Here i found the web hosting packages at cheap price. It also support the MYSQL & PHP .For more details, visit the site.
