The official "MCTS Self-Paced Training Kit (Exam 70-562): Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 ASP.NET Application Development" will not be released until mid-April.

For the time being, what is the best book with which to prepare for the exam? I'm not asking which book is the best ASP.NET 3.5 book in general, just which is best with regard to the skills measured on the exam.

The book should focus on C#, not VB.

The best study guide will be the MCTS for .net 2.0 then.

.NET 3.5 is not a completely new set of libraries, rather .NET 2.0 and the new stuff.

MSDN will probably be your best resource for 3.5 stuff that was not in 2.0. Just follow lots of links and do lots of reading. :)

I always just use MSDN. Usually the MS Press books are not very good.

The MS Press books are excellent guides to what is *actually on the certification exam*. And many of them (not all) are very good for learning .Net, too.

Microsoft recently launched MyRampUp.com - a great, free, resource for getting up to speed with the various technologies required for their exams - these include sample chapters from the official learning materials, online labs, and tests.

The Visual Studio 2008 track is the most use for 562, while I found the 2002/2003 Developer: Learn VS 2005 to be helpful getting up to speed for 536.

I took (and passed) 536 (TS: Microsoft .NET Framework - Application Development Foundation) and 562 (TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5, ASP.NET Application Development) at TechEd in Barcelona last year, based mostly on the work I'd been doing the previous year on some sites for clients, having been stuck pretty much in the world of 1.1 uptil then.

While TechEd was on, they had removed the actual "Completion" events from the modules, so I was able to flick through the sections I felt I was weak on, however, you'll need to complete each module now to progress to the next.

Completing each course has generally given you a discount voucher to use on the relevant exam.

I think these were great resources, but overall, the best thing I'd done was actually use the framework to build some fairly hefty sites, so really getting some use out it. That said, I made some notes of some of the questions in the exams for further reading, and have managed to improve some things based on.

Don't forget, at the moment, most providers seem to be offering Free Second Shot, so if you fail, you can retake it within a set period - use the exam as its own preperation if you need to, to find out what areas you are weak in.
