I am getting the message "Stack Overflow" while running REBUILD.EXE in cobol85 under Windows XP. This command was working nicely up to Windows 98. This command is used to recreate key file for Indexed Sequential file (ISAM).
What is causing this problem? How can I work around it or fix it?
Try looking at the docs - it's old software and probably not supported under Windows 2000 or newer. Try editing the shortcut and run it in Windows 98 compatibility mode (right click shortcut to .exe, Properties, Compatibility.) Check whether the .exe file is corrupted - try restoring it from a known good source. Try asking the program manufacturer whether there are any known issues or workarounds for running that software under XP.
