There is a lot of difference between PHP and Adobe AIR. Adobe AIR is meant for client side, while PHP is for server side.

AFAIK, the only way to get hold of the hard drive number in AIR would be to invoke native OS API and bind its result. However, I am eager to be proven wrong.
