On the official page for the exam there is no mention of any books. Does anyone know when any will come available?

You could start with the exam guide for the previous version of that exam, the one that covers ASP.NET 2.0.

I would then supplement it with the ASP.NET 3.5 Unleashed book from SAMS Press until there is an official exam guide out. This book is positively huge, hardcover, and has every piece of information a practicing ASP.NET 3.5 developer needs and should probably have 90%+ overlap with the exam material.

Edit

The official guide comes out tomorrow: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/073562562X/

This seems to be for exam 70-562 instead of 564. Do you know the differences? We passed the 70-536 exam (today) and are now ready to continue with the next training.

You are linking to the wrong book.

Exam 70-564 is the exam that comes after 70-562. There is no study book available yet.

There is a book.

GerryO announced on a reply to a comment on his blog that the official MS Press book for exam 70-564 has been cancelled due to budget. He recommands that you can use the 70-547 training kit, for VS 2005, and then supplement with VS 2008 content from MSDN.

I found this blog post, says this answer is a bad idea: http://is.gd/bIzSE

This is no longer the correct answer.

Does anyone know (as a rough percentage) how much of the 70-547 Training Kit book covers the 70-564 exam?

Hope this helps http://www.zoroja.com/blog/2009/10/11/how-to-study-for-the-ms-70-564-exam/ I would not go with the 70-547 book since the 70-564 is very .NET 3.5 focused

The book comes out on 26 July 2010:

70-564: Designing and Developing ASP.NET Applications Using the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5

UPDATE - We received our copies last week (end of July).

This should be the accepted answer. The book is available at amazon.

I received my study guide from Amazon last week.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/0470551402/

I knew before I purchased that there were some negative comments about the text, but bought anyhow. I wanted something to read to make sure that I had a comprehensive understanding of the test material. What I received was two thin booklets that are what appear to be student course text. The issues are that the texts are intended for an instructor lead class. The preface even mentions the instructor version of the text that has answers to the questions in the book. One booklet covered the class materials and the other the lab work. While I have only glanced at the lab text it appears to have walkthroughs of basic code building. The labs consist of a walkthrough and supplementary challenge labs. The skills demonstrated in the walkthrough are not what I would consider a skill level of someone seeking a Professional Certification. The challenge labs, that do not have any type of walkthrough but are presented in a paragraph format, are more of the professional type.

The CD that came with the text has some testing software that may be helpful.

The price was outrageous for what I received. The Microsoft Press books that I used to ready myself for 70-562 and 70-536 were much better.

I plan on reading the course manual, but plan on supplementing my knowledge by reviewing MSDN and other books such as Professional ASP.NET 3.5 by WROX.

I would not recommend anyone buy this text. It seems like offering this text is a stopgap solution to Microsoft’s ‘business decision’ not to publish the actual MS Press book covering 70-564.
