Anyway, perhaps you could re-download .NET Framework 4 Beta 1 (x86 and x64) edition, and install that first.

I got it from MSDN in the first place. I used tehm to install on Win7 which worked. The same bits failed on my other machine which has Vista x64

The .net framework cleanup tool doesn't eliminate the .net 1.0 conflict error message generated by the .net 4 installer.
