So I started using jQuery the other day and upon many blogger recommendations I placed my order for jQuery in Action at Amazon. Only to find out a day later, when I expected it to arrive, that it was out of stock.

If you have read both could you please recommend one over the other. Currently jQuery in Action is out of stock with Amazon and I'm considering ordering Learning jQuery or getting the PDF instead of a physical copy.

Unfortunately I've only read one, so I can't offer a comparison, but jQuery in Action is excellent.

I didn't know you could say "bullshit" on here. I would have used that a little more often.

If you are going to do 'for voting' options, put them into community.

I used jQuery in action to teach a colleague, and it worked very well. Plus I've met the one of the authors and heard him speak, very insightful.

I've got both sitting here and I prefer jQuery in Action and that's the one I paid for, the other was a gift.

And in your opinion which is better?

Well, the one I prefer is better :) jQuery in Action.

I would instead recommend Pro JavaScript Techniques by John Resig.

It's not directly about jQuery, it's more like do-it-yourself-jQuery. It teaches you what goes on under the hood of a JavaScript library like jQuery and how you would implement something like this by yourself. And it contains some great advice on how to use JavaScript in general.

I bought them both and found that they are both useful. In Action may win by a small margin, but I learned from them both so I'm glad that I have both.

Learning jQuery has recently been updated to reference the 1.3 version of jQuery.
