If you can sift through the code and find the free online documentation for RoR, railscasts.com is awesome. (That's how I got a basic proficiency.)

I would suggest Teach Me To code screen casts, specially:

Introduction to Ruby on Rails 2 and Creating a Twitter Clone in Rails series.

The original introduction screencast is available from:

Ruby On Rails: Screencasts

Or the direct link is: http://media.rubyonrails.org/video/rails_blog_2.mov

Look at the older episodes of railscasts.com, the newer ones are for advanced rails-developers. Also check the rails-section on rubytu.be and guides.rubyonrails.com is a very nice place to start, though it is not video.

Peepcode is excellent. $8 an episode, but they're usually about 1 hour long and excellent.

An excellent site that aggregates screencasts for learning Ruby and Ruby on Rails is http://www.learnivore.com.
