Hi,

I would like to know how are you trying to find good software developers and where are you looking for them.

Regards,

Niko

It depends what you have to offer. Please have a look at finding great developers.

I live in a relatively low population area (Western MA), so I do a lot of networking to make sure that I know as many good developers as possible. I belong to a few developer groups and try to stay active in them.

We run an internship program to make sure we have a good relationship with the local colleges.

We also have a good relationship with a local recruiter that has found good developers for us.

I wish I could use job boards more (like on joelonsoftware, codeproject, or dailywtf), but we haven't had luck with those because we aren't in a big enough population.

If I wanted to look beyond the developers that I have worked with, I would start with my local developer group. While it may not be true in all locations, our group is full of seasoned developers, who are improving their skills by attending our very educational monthly meetings.

that is the reason why some high geek professional web sites have their own job boards. Such as jobs.joelonsoftware or hiddennetwork.

Personnel selection in general only works out if there are good HR staff who know what they are doing. Personnel selection is a science and the specialists come mainly from the overlapping area of work psychology and business adminsitration.

Parameters which increase the probability for a good fit:

  • Job marketing reaches all the target groups
  • The company has established a positive image on the employment market
  • Requirements for the job are well defined
  • The company has the needed valid selection instruments and knows how to use them
  • Decisions are based on broad assessment rather than the bosses feelings
  • The company can provide average or above average conditions
