what could be a good research topic which concerns the latest web technologies? im a computer science student, though our computer science program leans more on the software engineering part of the science.
In my view, "a good research topic" and "the latest web technologies" should not go together. :-)
Let me explain. A good research topic must be, among other things, relevant. In other words, it should survive the test of time, meaning that the outcomes of your research should stay valid and applicable after some time has passed. The latest web technologies are often volatile and of unpredictable lifetimes, so basing your research on them may easily result in outcomes that are extremely short lived. You don't want that.
Try to research theories or methods, not technologies. If you must research technologies, then do either (a) groundbreaking technologies that will pioneer new areas and will be forgotten soon, but will help others continue; or (b) infrastructural, solid, proven technologies that have been around for some time and can be incrementally improved.
My 2 cents. :-)
