how to access a WIDCOMM based bluetooth device on android ?

I am trying to access a data stream from a bluetooth device which is WIDCOMM based. I tried opening an RFCOMM channel from android and the ASCII display just gives me blank lines. I learnt that the device is WIDCOMM bluetooth stack based.

I am new to developing bluetooth applications and I would appreciate it if anyone could help me with this issue
