Is there any Free or cheap software for freelancers, or solo developers, that can help you stay organized and on track? Give you an estimate of task vs Time. Here you are in your project and what left. As simple, productive and efficient as possible. Not web Based. And that those not get in your way. Thanks

One free alternative to Microsoft Project is Open Workbench (look in SourceForge, main website is offline for some reason).

Honestly, open workbench is minimally functional but the user interface is terrible.

Org-mode for Emacs is great for project planning. It's a pretty flexible and effective system, but you can keep it as simple as you need. You can estimate times and deadlines, like you mentioned, and even clock-in/clock-out to keep track of your time. (See Org-mode manual for Dates and Times.)

There is Fogbugz, its not free but I think its not very expensive. It has lots of usefull features for managing a project.

We started using it at our company and so far its pretty cool.

I think its free for Students and Startups. I don't know if you can use it for free if you are a freelancer developing comercial products.

phpCollab is a good option. It is an open source software in PHP, so it is possible modify or add custom features.
