I have to create prototype application for a mobile using J2ME. I searched for good tutorial but failed to find any. Is there any good tutorial which can guide step by step what needs to be done to create a simple HelloWorld application on mobile?

This is a Quick Start for developing a J2ME application using Netbean's Mobile Designer. I believe that this is the easiest way to go for a beginner.

I saw in your comment that you are asking how to deploy and run the application on a mobile. Well you simple copy the the jad/jar file you've created to the phone. This process however is very device specific and I don't think you would be able to find generic guidelines. It is better to look for something specific for the mobile device you are going to use.

This article has an overview of how to:

  • Deploy wireless applications remotely
  • Download local and remotely deployed applications
  • Download applications over the air

And this J2ME guide, while written with a specific handset in mind, has some good general info including:

"There are two files needed to install your J2ME application on the phone: One is the jar file which contains all of your compiled java code. The other is the jad file while contains metadata about your application and permissions information."

There is a very good page for developers at Sony Ericsson Developer Support. They have started to use wiki for their new articles, so there are older tricks and a wiki for new ones.

This is, of course, mostly useful for Sony Ericsson developers, but most tutorials are not connected to some SE-specific features and thus helpful to anyone. Have a look!
