I have just started a new job in the UK but find the UK layout quite irritating since I've used the US keyboard layout all my life ... any ideas where I can get a good selection of US layout keyboards in London?

Just learn the new layout. It's not so hard.
If you really can't get used to it, buy one from the Internet.
The transformation between the US & UK keyboards is nothing compared to the switch between UK & French/Swiss keyboards. That was really hard when I did it.

I have a UK keyboard, but I still use it as a US layout, forget what your eyes tell you and trust your fingers :)

Agreed - the differences are so small that you will quickly get used to it. Also, as another poster has said, it's nothing compared with a change to a French/Swiss keyboard - on a French keyboard, it's Alt-GR+8 to get the @ character, and you have to press SHIFT to get numbers...a big change!

I googled "UK keyboard layout" and the only difference I see is some changed symbols on the upper numeric keys. Is there something else I'm missing?

Indeed, if you 'bring your own keyboard' to a Mac Mini as Steve Jobs suggested, and it's a British PC keyboard, you'll find the standard keyboard setup leaves you with the wrong layout.
