If I could have a directory treeview inside of Sublime Text I'd be happy as a peach, because I haven't found a more elegant editor.

Can't use TextMate because I don't have a Mac.

I believe E-Text Editor is very similar to TextMate but for the PC. You could check that out.

You could also try Komodo Edit or FlashDevelop. Both have a project directory view, but not a full system directory view. FlashDevelop is my favorite editor, but only has useful code hinting for Actionscript.

Those are the only text editors I've used and liked to date. I'm still looking for the perfect one, though.

Notepad2 + metapath are exactly what I was looking for.

unfortunately metapath doesn't seem to have expandable directory tree :-(

Sublime Text doesn't have a directory tree view, but the latest version (1.2) does have support for projects, and opening a file in a project is quite pleasant with the quick panel.
