I'm looking for a company that provides video hosting with an upload API, for a small businesses. Now, I know YouTube has an API for harnessing their technology, but the client doesn't like the idea of YouTube hosting their content.

Other than trying to justify YouTube's API, has anyone had a good experience with another provider, or know of any other companies who provide these packages on a small business scale where we could negotiate rates, advertising options, that also has an expandable API for developers?

Some companies that come to mind are VideoEgg, Ooyala, but are there others that you would recommend? If so, why?

Thanks, Acorn

Vimeo is my favorite. Here is the developer API link:

vimeo is great, but they are not desigend for small business, they are for creative artists and I dont think they allow commercial type videos.

There is vzaar which provides and video hosting service for small business and they have an api. http://api.vzaar.com/

Hope this helps.

Vimeo do seem to allow commercial videos, for example http://www.vimeo.com/4281939 http://www.vimeo.com/zacuto and others

Vimeo are certainly aware of the first video I linked to - they made special modifications to the site for it (the background changes with the video), and also advertised the video! I guess it's worth contacting them first..

For video technology for small businesses, you should take a look at the Nimbb Player. This is a webcam video recorder/player that is fully programmable using the Nimbb API and is really simple to program (a few HTML/Javascript lines get you started). They have different subscriptions pricing that meets small businesses needs.

Also try blip.tv which has an api and supports commercial content + unbranded video players.

You can also try encoding.com or flixcloud if you want an api that allows you to keep the video hosted on you own servers and hand off the encoding to a 3rd party. Were using a similar setup and hosting videos in amazon s3 as both encoding.com and flixcloud can save to s3 buckets.
