This is in response to the answer given for the case: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/702556/sharepoint-calculated-column-replace-all-spaces

I'm having the exact issue that the original poster has and I'm fairly new at doing development with SharePoint meaning I have yet to venture into doing coding. Can someone point me to a link or tutorial that would at least get me started with the solution you recommend. I have VS2008, but I'm not sure which files need modification.

Thanks

You are asking a big question here and don't mention what your current development knowledge is. SharePoint isn't trivial unfortunately however here are some places to get started:

These links should tell you plenty about how to set up your development environment. The only thing that may be missing is that I think everyone here recommends using WSPBuilder to develop your features and solutions.

+1 for mentioning Inside Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.
