I'm looking for a good 3rd party host for Team Foundation Server. Have any of you had good or bad experiences in the past?

Will be working on a small .NET project with several other guys in different locations.

Are there any performance problems or any other "gotchas" with 3rd party hosting?

The only provider I know is: TeamDevCentral. Brian Harry has a post on this.

if it is an open source project, you can host on CodePlex

TFS doesn't have much out there in the way of hosted services. I have used Subversion with CVSDude and ProjectLocker as hosts. Fast, easy, cheap. Great for distributed teams.

CVSDude, aside from the name, seems like a winner. Roughly $100 cheaper a month than comparable TFS hosts. Have you used Trac much? Do you know if it can import MS Project files?
JonnyD
There are a number of TFS hosting providers...

JonnyD - yes we do use Trac and like it a lot. Not sure about MS Project import.Martin - maybe TFS hosts are a growing sector. Two years ago when we looked we only found one and the price was astronomical - not to mention the overhead in terms of complexity of setting up and using the system. CVS was a breeze - very low barrier to entry for a small team.

Here are the ones I know about:

Phase2 -http://www.phase2.com/hosted_team_foundation_server_overview2.aspx TeamDevCentral - http://www.teamdevcentral.com/

You can also try PRAKTIK HOSTING.

You may try SCM Anywhere Hosted, which is a software configuration management hosting solution.

This is not TFS hosting like the question asks for.

I contacted all the companies listed here and only PRAKTIK Hosting and teamdevcentral returned me. I will write an article about hosted tfs in a few weeks. After i translate English, i will share the link with you.

DiscountASP.net have a reasonable hosting package now....at the time of writing it's $20 per month, per developer - http://www.discountasp.net/tfs/

I have tried DiscountASP.NET's TFS hosting and found it to be reasonably easy to get up and running. It's not the "Full" version of TFS, but if all you want is integrated Bug Tracking and Source Control, then you should take a look.

In my unscientific tests, the performance to the servers in Los Angeles was reasonable. I was able to checkin 25MB/4,000 files of the EntLib5 source in about a minute. Work Item Tracking performance was also very good.

Here's the walkthrough on Getting Started with TFS Hosting from DiscountASP.NET.
