Being new to Freelancing, how can i get projects. Give me tips and tricks in winning bids and getting project successfully

I want to become a Freelancer. When i entered into a freelancing site, being a new user i am unable to get the project.

Start blogging. Keep your resume/CV up-to-date. Get involved in open source projects. Have an online portfolio of projects/work you've done.

Think: "How can I assure people of the quality of my work?" Show them. Expose your work. Let people see what you are capable of.

For php, try writing modules for popular open source content management and blogging software.

Or, extend a package out-of-the-box and give it some pizzaz. Repackage, and showcase your derived work.
