I'm currently researching solutions that converts SharePoint's lengthy urls to tiny/clean urls. There seems to be plenty of solutions for public sharepoint portals but I'm looking for an open source solution that i could for my intranet portal site. References to any articles or blog site that covers this issue would be great.

Are you sure that the Solution has been deployed correctly and the Feature has been activated without any errors? There should be an HttpHandler for the GoCodes solution registered in the web.config of your Web Application.

Muhimbi have a product called SharePoint URL Shortener. I haven't used it but the screenshots make it look like it does the job and it's for use within the intranet. However it is a paid product and not open source.

Muhimbi's product is exactly what I'm looking for but I need a free open source solution.

Jan Tielens has written a solution using Bit.ly and JavaScript Edit Control Block techniques. He provides the full source code and a great blog post on how to do it.
