Is there a free web service, RSS or something where I can get the USA's quotes of live market prices of precious metals like gold, silver, platinum etc. I do not want a paid service to get those details.

I wish to write a mobile application and I will have those values read into the application and do further calculation and even sell those mobile apps in future.

I am aware that I can scrap data out of certain websites, but I am not sure whether its legal or illegal. Your answers will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Ramji

I have never found anything reliable. If you do find a a free feed it will have a delay of at least 15mins.

I know yahoo finance has an rss api but its not for commercial use. If you need something for commercial use you will always have to pay for market data feeds.

You won't get real time prices. They'll most likely be delayed by 15-20 mins. Note that whether you can screen-scrape these is down to the permissions granted by whichever source you use. Also prices will not necessarily be tied to a country (USA) but will be exchange-specific (e.g. CME).

As an example, see the CME Metals Products page.

Perhaps this will be of some use to you:

http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2008/06/google-shows-real-time-stock-data.html

"Starting from today, Google shows real-time price data for all NASDAQ stocks, informs Google Finance Blog. Google partnered with CNBC, Wall Street Journal, Xignite and managed to convince NASDAQ that providing free access to real-time stock data is the right thing to do. "With universal access to the Internet and the real-time nature of the web, investors need real time data, and now they don't have to pay for it," said Adena Friedman, Executive Vice President at NASDAQ."
