I haven't done any audio coding before so bare with me. basically, I've noticed that some media players can directly stream AC3 and dts streams to the spdif out (like media player classic playing a dvd) because of the way it does it, it bypasses all of the system sound integration and re sampling and stuff (so none of the software volume controls will do anything, the sound gets sent out EXACTLY the way it came off of the dvd)

So basically, as a confessed noob audiophile, is it possible to do the same, but stream LPCM instead? bypassing all the system mixing , and sending the cd or .wav audio to the spdif out exactly as it was in the file? I know that spdif supports LPCM just as it does AC3 and DTS, so I thought it might be possible using the same method.

I looked into other solutions and found things like ASIO that was basically more trouble than its worth for what i'm trying to do, so basically I just want to know if its possible? doing the same kinda way as the AC3/DTS streaming?

if so, are there any media players that already do this?

(using windows XP, could use windows 7)
