Which chatrooms do you use to interact with other developers? Which IRC channels, for example, on freenode? What other, besides IRC, places and communities?

Well basicly in chatrooms regarding the current work and their tools. If I am configuring my server I hang out in #linux, if I am working on interfacing transmission with python I may hang out in #python and #transmission ;). Just as needed. I usually don't hang around in multiple rooms all the time. It distracts from working on my projects.

#python is an excellent community that promotes learning to fish over getting free fish, signal over noise, and correct solutions. The kind of people that help here are those that get at the root of what you're trying to solve, even if you don't know the right question to ask.

In my experience, newsgroups are still far superior to chatrooms if you're interested in learning. And if newsgroups are becoming obsolete for this purpose, they're not being replace by chatrooms, but by interaction on blogs.

If you're just interested in hanging out, it varies greatly with what kind of people you want to hang out with.
