Good Reference for Web Concepts

My business analyst approached me and asked if I could recommend a book that would help her get up to speed on some of the concepts, trends and buzzwords related to todays internet technologies. Basically, "I want to understand some of the words you [programmers] bring up during meetings." (We work on ASP.NET web sites for the financial industry, specifically).

At first I thought to tell her the best resource are blogs where people are discussing things all things web 2.0, technology, marketing and design, and when in doubt turn to wikipedia. O'Reilly Radar site and wired magazine come to mind. Even though I do think the best place to learn about the web is on the web, I tried looking on amazon for some books that might help her get started, but didn't have much luck.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Just tell her google for all the terms she doesn't know and first check things on Wikipedia.

Books are a long-term project, you need dedication and time to read them. Your business analyst probably has neither.

yup, write them down, and google them... only problem with that is she'll find out they're all made up! :o

Granted, I understand how questions like this can really irk a programmer. You think to yourself, "Its part of my job to know these things, and it should be part of yours too." However, I've found it gets me nowhere to be condescending at work - even if I'm right - so, pretend I instead of "Business Analyst", I said "my Mom."

Expedite the process for her and her team. Offer to provide a hour of free form training/seminar once a month whereby they can pick your brains. If you're concerned they might stump you then have them pre-submit the questions. She's showing some initiative. Respond in kind. Build a stronger bridge.

Hey, at least your analyst is actually interested in familiarizing herself with the concepts. More then I can say for mine :P

Here is an O'Reilly's book on Web 2.0 for business analyst type people. Perhaps it could help her obtain a less technical, but more relevant viewpoint.

"Under the Hood of Web 2.0..." - is not understandable for a human and is poorly written. The author without introducing a concept discusses some of its characteristics and usage options.
