SPContext in Event Receiver (PortalSiteMapProvider)

I'm trying to write an event receiver which uses the PortalSiteMapProvider. Without having HTTPContext or SPContext INSIDE the event receiver, how would one go about accessing the PortalSiteMapProvider?
