What's the current release date for PHP 6.

I recall once reading that it was to be released back in 2006. We're just a few weeks away from 2010.

I can't find an official source, but it looks like the answer is "when it's ready". Which might not be particularly soon, unfortunately. On the other hand, some features originally planned for PHP 6 have been backported to the 5.x branch, so PHP development is far from dead even though the Next Big Release continues to be delayed.

You'll also notice that the article you linked to also states PHP6 was to be released back in 2006 :(
Hank
True, but that didn't happen, and I'm not aware of any more recent release estimates being given.

Do you think it's turning into Perl 6 ... that has since taken 10 years and still not released?
Hank
Maybe, but the changes in Perl 6 are much greater in scope than those in PHP 6. I think it's just that people don't care that much about having a new version of PHP. It's only quite recently that people have migrated to PHP 5 in large numbers, after all.
bcat
Wait, people migrated to PHP 5? In large numbers?? When did that happen???
MiseryIndex
@MiseryIndex: most of user have migrated I believe (or at least hope)

@RageZ: Most users are migrating to a better server technology
Frank Edwards
@Frank: you mean to Java or ASP.net? if yes I think that's not really true after one of the most successful website is running on PHP : facebook just to name it.
RageZ
@RageZ: It was a joke at how awful PHP is. Facebook wasn't successful because they understand software, but because they understand certain social factors. Go read Jeff Atwood's take on PHP.
Frank Edwards
@Frank: Ooopppsss that was ironic,no my remark about facebook is more the number of server they have and probably really complex architecture but coded in PHP. Sone J2EE guy still believe python and PHP (and perl) are only for hobbyist and a real application is always coded in Java .... so just wanna fight this myth.
