Hi,

My brother is in 7th grade, I think it's time for him to learn php. His English is not so good. So something in Hebrew will be very appreciated.

Thanks.

I suggest learning from the official PHP website. Despite your brother's age, he can overcome the language obstacle if he tends to like PHP in particular and programming in general.

The Hebrew websites aren't recommended for learning, since the authors aren't professional enough and have a bad writing style which makes it difficult for learning.

Edit:

Please don't get me wrong:

I read all PHP Hebrew tutorials. They're not good enough.
If you talk Arabic or French, it doesn't matter - I think that anyone should learn from the official PHP website, since it's the most updated and comprehensive tutorial.
Other tutorials would never have the necessary information that you can find in php.net.

Sounds like a sweeping generalisation to me. It would be more logical (and less prejudiced) to indicate that not enough resources are put into Hebrew programming tutorials. Your suggestion that Hebrew authors aren't professional enough is verging on a racist comment.

I'm Jewish who lives in Israel (see my name?). I read all PHP Hebrew tutorials so I probably know what I'm saying...
Dor
i think their isnt a reason to vote down his answer because php manual is realy a good source to learn php so i voted his answer up

You can be Israeli and still be racist against people who write tutorials in Hebrew. Being polite is a good practice.
Anna
@Anna: You can't say racist on tutorials. That's not a valid sentence.I appreciate the Hebrew tutorials authors' job, but the tutorials still aren't good enough.
Dor
Well, that's what you should have said - like the suggestion of codeinthehole - that there is not much effort put into these books/tutorials.It might happen for a good reason - Israelies usually know English quite well, and just write/read their books in English.I still think that being polite is important. I just saw your edit, which is better :)
Anna
"being polite is important" indeed. At first I didn't express my opinion well enough. Thanks.

As you probably know, programming resources in Hebrew are thin because the Israeli professional community mostly relies on English material.

If there is any good instruction material in Hebrew, it is not in the public domain. You should look for people working in large organizations and ask if they have internal instruction material in Hebrew that they are allowed to share with you. One organization that has always been committed to Hebrew is the military...

It is also possible that the companies that run PHP training have helpful stuff, but they would probably not be happy about sharing it for free.

If this search fails, you still have the following options:

  • Search for material in easy English. It would be an opportunity for your brother to improve in English, which is not less important IMHO than improving in PHP...
  • Write or translate some tutorials yourself! Then of course publish it for other people to use, preferably in a wiki form...
  • Finally, you might want to choose a programming language for which more material is available. For example, there are ASP books in Hebrew. People may not like Microsoft, but MS has and does put a lot of effort into localization.

Notwithstanding my other answer, have a look at The Isreali Guide to PHP.

I don't know how good it is but it attempts to be a full book suitable for beginners. There are also videos (screencasts?) available.
