Hello,

For our company's website and product we're searching for a high-quality, reliable and cost-effective geoip solution. The interesting geoip properties are country and company. We need the possibility to download the database to a local server (an online service is not enough).

If anybody has done such a comparison could you please share your results? Thank you!

Company for which I work uses free version of MaxMind GeoIP solution. GeoIP has API for various languages.

It's good enough for our needs.

However it was chosen before I joined company, so I don't know how it was chosen.

Here is features comparation chart.

MaxMind GeoIP City Database

I've seen their lite version of the service in action and it worked great.

Thanks for you quick answers!!MaxMind is definitly something we're considering.I just find it hard to get some hard-facts how accurate the data this. The data won't be collected by hand but I guess it's also not 100% automatic...so there will be differences between providers. Thanks again.

I have been using GeoIP database from maxmind.com, and I'm happy with it. I'm using their free version, as advertised it is accurate country wise, but not city wise (free version). Maxmind provides comma delimited text file which we can add it to our database and I think they update the file monthly.

I have used melissadata too. I really don't know whether they provide any file or database, but their results are 98% accurate country and city wise.

I had never used http://www.ip2location.com/ip-country-region-city-latitude-longitude-zipcode-timezone-areacode.aspx, but have heard good about it.

We've been subscribing to MaxMind's GeoIP Country data for about five years now and have been using it with great success (US$12 per month).
