Mouse down state image not shown

I have a button called submit on the page. The button is comprised of 3 background images.The images are called through css. To show hover and press states I am using Javascript. When I click the button the pressed image is not shown. I click outside the button area and click the button again then the pressed image is shown. I would like to know why the pressed state image is not shown when I click for the first time on the button? Here is the page URL:
