I have just started today at a new company. They are a wensure that used to outsource all of their development. I am the only dev for now and need visual studio 2008. What is they best way to licence it?

It is a website and they won't be creating an application. Is isv possible and is it the way to go?

A:

if you google "cheap visual studio professional" there seem to be licenses for as little as $100.

Visual Studio Express edition is free http://www.microsoft.com/exPress/

I thnk though that the licence that you use really depends on what you are doing with it. I would try to consult your companies legal department just in case. You can buy Standard or Pro directly from Microsoft.

Hey, Visual Studio 2010 is set to release on March 22nd. That's less than 90 days away.

If I were you, I'd either make do with the beta of Visual Studio 2010 which is freely available - or download Visual Studio 2008 Trial that lasts approximately 90 days. then buy 2010 when it comes out.

I would not recommend VS 2010 right now, as there are a lot of complaints about it from people on the CodeProject forums, mostly slow, WPF crashy, designer is crashy and slow...it is not even in RC stage and it has been deferred back for another while to iron out the issues...to be honest, VS 2003/2005 are actually more stable than VS2008/2010...
