Does anyone know an automated solution to migrate Oracle Forms to Java desktop forms (e.g. a code generator whose input are Oracle Forms definition files and output is Java code in AWT/Swing/SWT/whatever)?

Preferrably open-source or free, but commercial ones are also a possibility.

I don't know of any tools that will automate the process. From various Oracle events I have attented I have seen companies that offer this service a quick google will show them.

Have you seen this note from the Oracle Forms Product manager? In particular the subheading "Can you achieve migration?" where Christopher Job (Vice President of Tools) is quoted as saying:

“We knew we would not be able to provide a complete migration, and manual modifications would have been required for all but the simplest application. [Furthermore] the applications resulting from any automated migration would not have had the structure of an architecturally sound J2EE application.”

Hope this helps

Thanks. I've seen the consulting and services companies offering to do the migration that come up in the Google search; but I'd like to go for an in-house job which would be aided by automating a part of the process. Regarding the quote from C. Job, as stated in the question, we don't need "an architecturally sound J2EE application", even a simple and thick (1-tier) UI application would suffice. Our legacy forms are very simple, but plentiful.

If you cannot find a pre-built solution, you may be interested in using the JDAPI provided by Oracle to roll your own. It provides a Java API for accessing and manipulating Oracle Forms.
